Mangaluru, June 12, 2016 : District Superintendent of Police Bhushan Gulabrao Borase who has held a peace meeting at Savanoor village in Puttur taluk on June 11, Saturday in the backdrop of Friday’s incident wherein two autorickshaw drivers were brutally assaulted, has warned of stern action against anti-social and disruptive forces. He also requested the people not to give a communal colour to every incident.
The two autorickshaw drivers namely Mohammad Asif (22) and Kalandar (24), both hailing from Savanoor are seriously injured in the assault and the condition of one of them namely Asif is said to be critical. The accused have been identified as Monappa Gowda, Dharnappa Gowda, Babu Gowda, Kushalappa Gowda, Poovani Gowda, Keshava, Balakrishna and Prasad, the latter three being the children of Poovappa Gowda.
Of the accused, Kadaba police have already arrested Monappa Gowda and Poovani Gowda.
The incident : The incident had occurred on Friday evening when Monappa Gowda of Idyadi near Savanoor had hired Asif’s autorickshaw. However when the autorickshaw reached Monappa’s house, he went inside saying he would bring the money. However, instead Poovani Gowda and his son Prasad arrived and attacked Asif after an argument. Asif who somehow escaped from their clutches went to a mosque where he broke his Ramadan fast. Meanwhile, as he had to use the same route n his return journey he took a friend Kalandar, also an autorickshaw drive along.
When they reached Idyady, the accused along with others who were waiting attacked the duo with lethal weapons.
Rape case : Meanwhile, in another development, Poovani Gowda’s wife has lodged a complaint with the police accusing Asif of trying to outrage her modesty and even trying to snatch her mangalasutra when she tried to intervene in the fight.
