2 arrested for possessing heroin worth Rs 1 cr, Excise DC clarifies

Udupi, April 19, 2013: George Pinto, Excise DC has informed that only two persons have been arrested in connection with the seizure of heroin worth Rs 1 crore  from a hotel at Hemmady on April 18, Thursday.

He said another person has been absconding,. The accused were produced before the media in the town on April 19, Friday.

 

 

The absconding person has been identified as Johson Melwin Louis, a native of AIrodi, Sasthan,  but residing in Bangalore. The arrested are Diwakar Devadiga and Sudhir Hegde, the Excise DC informed.

The officer informed that the absconding accused  had planned to visit  the place from Bangalore with 5 kg of heroin but  has cancelled his visit following media reports regarding seizing of heroin. The photograph of the accused was also released. The arrested were booked under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, 1985, sections 8C and 17C and 22C. They were later produced before the  Kundapur court.
