However, the same sign board was removed by the officials of MCC as per the instructions of Mayor Harinath.  Mayor Harinath’s claim was the original name of the road was ’Kadri Jogi Mutt Street’ and not ’Swami Vivekananda Road’. The Mayor also had charged BJP corporator Roopa of violating the rules by installing name board.

On Jan 23, Monday, Roopa held a media meet and released documents to prove her claim that the name of the road is ’Vivekananda Road’ and not ’Kadri Jogi Mutt Street’ as claimed by the Mayor. Roopa, who is also the corporator of Kadri North Ward, released a resolution adopted by the Mangalore Municipal Council (MMC) on May 7, 1963.

"The Padavu Road from the junction of the Padavu road and the Karkal Mangalore road upto the junction of the roads at the Western end of the Tourist Home be named as the Vivekananda Road," reads the agenda of MMC Legal Committee meet held on May 7, 1963. The same proposal has been accepted too.

"We did not want to carry out a protest in the name of Swami Vivekananda. We expect a peaceful and truthful solution for the issue. Now we have produced the certified copies of the relevant documents to prove it . Hence, we request the Mayor to re-install the name board at the same spot," Roopa told reporters.

Noted is the 1963 resolution accepts renaming the road as `Vivekananda Road’ and not `Swami Vivekananda Road.’
