17 children injured in bus accident

Mangalore, June 4: Seventeen students of Rotary Navachetana English Medium School, including 10 girls, sustained minor injuries when their school bus hit a private bus near Neermarga on the morning of June 4, Friday.

The injured students are Sushmitha (8), Diya (8), Afrin (11), Pavithra (13), Pravas (11), Joswith (8), Yashaswini (4), Vaibhav (8), Varshin (6), Yashvith (8), Vinith (8), Lavanya (9), Nithya (13), Zakya, Shanmil, Poorneshwari, Aafia, and Thejaswini. Thirteen of the injured children have been admitted to SCS Hospital and the others have been taken to Tejaswini Hospital. The driver of the bus Damodar (55) sustained injuries on his legs and is currently receiving treatment at SCS Hospital. 

The school bus was moving from Permai to Neermarga at 8:40 a.m., when a private bus bound to BC Road dashed into it. Janardhan B., an office bearer of the school, was in the bus when the accident occurred. He stated that the driver of the school bus prevented a major tragedy. The bus was carrying around 38 children. 

The private bus as well as the school bus has been damaged in the accident. The Kankanady rural police have registered a case.
