150th Gandhi Jayanti marked with cleanliness rally in city

Mangaluru, Oct 03, 2018: Members of several associations and  organisations performed cleanliness drives on account of 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi in Mangaluru and surrounding areas on October 2, Tuesday.

Bridge and Roof Company Ltd and others organised a cleanliness drive in Surathkal. More than 300 employees took part in the drive from Surathkal Katla Cross to MRPL Gate, covering a distance of more than three kilometres. A majority of the participants were from Bihar, Maharashtra, Uttar Pradesh and different districts in Karnataka.

The participants cleared the waste, wrappers and water bottles dumped beside the road. They also created awareness among women, children in the houses on cleanliness and sanitation.

On the occasion, MLA Mangaluru City North Dr Y Bharath Shetty said tat Swacchata Hi Seva programme has been considered seriously by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the last four-and-a-half years. A lot of changes have taken place in terms of sanitation and cleanliness in the last few years, he said.

Former MLA Mohiudeen Bava called upon the people to maintain cleanliness in the surroundings.

In Baikampady  :  Kanara Small Industries Association observed Rashtriya Swachata Divas to clean up the whole industrial area at Baikampady.

Ramakrishna Mutt President Jithakamanandaji inaugurated the programme. DIC Joint Director Gokuldas Nayak, Deputy Director of KIADB Kumarappa , workers and entrepreneurs participated in cleaning the whole industrial area. Awareness of cleaning and benefits of clean surroundings were highlighted during the programme.

Corporation Bank  :  Corporation Bank conducted a cleanliness drive (Shramdaan) to clean up the roads leading to its corporate office in Mangaluru. The bank has been observing a Cleanliness Drive- Swachhta Hi Seva (September 15,  to October 2, 2018) as a part of Swachh Bharat Abhiyan. Around 150 staff members of the bank, equipped with brooms, shovels, spades and other tools, cleaned the roads of Pandeshwar.

Corporation Bank MD and CEO Jai Kumar Garg, Gopal Murli Bhagat, Executive Director, Corporation Bank inaugurated the drive.


NITK Surathkal observed Gandhi Jayanti on its campus by organising a cleanliness drive.

NITK Board of Governors Chairman Prof K Balaveera Reddy, Director Prof Uma Maheshwar Rao, Registrar K Ravindranath, all the deans, head of the departments, faculty members, hostel wardens, students, NCC and NSS unit members carried out the drive. The participants cleaned the surroundings of the library, the commercial complex, dispensary and about 13 hostel blocks.

CPCRI

As a part of Swachhata hi Seva Campaign, Central Plantation Crops Research Institute (CPCRI) organised a rally followed by a street play Near CPCRI campus at Chowki town in Kasargod.

The children staged a street play on cleanliness which highlighted the need for managing the plastic waste and hygiene practices in day-to-day life.
