13th Week of Swacchata Abhiyan by Ramakrishna Mission

Mangaluru, Jan 29, 2018 : Ramakrishna Mission carried out 13 th Week’s Swacchata Abhiyan drive in Pumpwell  and Kankanadi Main Roads on Jan 28,  Sunday, Swami Tyaganandaji, Head, Vedanta Society of Boston, USA  Dr. Vinay hedge, Chancellor of  Nitte University were the chief guests. Speaking on the occasion, Swami Tyaganandaji said, “Cleanliness should be our first priority.  The mentality of depending on the Govt. Agencies for everything should first change.  Perseverance, patience and faith in the power of good – all combined together yields positive  results. I am glad to know that so many people have voluntarily come forward to help in this  drive and this is the first step towards change.” Dr N Vinay Hegde said, “It is matter of pride that Ramakrishna Mission is leading the wave of change through Swacchata Abhiyan. I urge each  and every citizen to come forward and lend a helping hand”. Swami Jitakamanandaji expressed that cleanliness work is equivalent of worshiping the Mother Earth.

Participation by delegates from 20 districts: More than 400 delegates from nearly 20 districts had participated in the 3 days’ devotees’ convention held at Ramakrishna Math. All of them took up brooms and volunteered to clean the streets, footpaths & drains. Several senior volunteers of Swacchata Abhiyan formed different teams from these delegates and cleaned the road leading from Pumpwell circle to Kankanadi. Along with cleaning work, they also removed the buntings,banners and other publicity materials illegally put up. They also cleaned the road dividers and both sides of the roads by removing stones, sand & jelly. More than 3 tippers of garbage and debris were transported from the area. It was a sight to see elder women, children joining hands. Swamis Tyaganandaji, Jitakamanandaji, Sattwasthanandaji, Prakashanandaji, Gurucharananandaji and others guided the volunteers.

Along with these delegates members of Team Vivek, Sri Sharada Mahila Vrinda, Nivedita Balaga, Swacch Yekkur team, Members of Havyaka Sabha and others actively participated in the drive. MRPL sponsored this drive.

Swacch Ullal: Ramakrishna Mission in association with Ullala Mogaveerapttana Higher Primary school old students association and several other groups of Ullala carried out Swacchata Abhiyan on 28 th January. Swami Ekagamyanandaji flagged off the drive. Sri Hussain Kunhimonu, President of Ullal Town Municipality, Town municipal commissioner Smt. Vani Alva and several others participated in the drive.
