Ishitha Achar, a student of eight standard in Madhava Kripa School in Manipal, who received an appreciation letter signed Union Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, was overwhelmed with joy.

During the lockdown, she decided to stitch masks with the help of her mother and by watching YouTube videos.

She effortlessly stitched over 300 masks, which she initially handed over to the Scouts and Guides mask bank.

The remaining masks she had couriered to the residence of the Union Defence Minister and had forgotten about it.

Ishitha’s mother Nandita Achar said Ishitha is immensely happy with the recognition as she was not expecting it.

She had also stitched 300 masks for students who appeared for the SSLC examination.
