13,176 polling staff in DK; 648 vehicles arranged; over 5000 postal ballots cast : DC

Mangaluru, May 10, 2018: Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil,  City Police Commissioner Vipul Kumar, ZP CEO M R Ravi and SP Dr Ravikanthegowda convened a joint press conference  here on May 10, Thursday to furnish details regarding  various  measures initiated for the smooth conduct of the May 12  Assembly elections.

The Deputy Commissioner informed that over 5,000 people including polling officers, police officers and other personnel on election duty have cast their votes through postal ballots. He also stated that postal ballots have already been sent to 12,837 polling officers, 1,295 police officers and personnel and 43 drivers and other personnel meant deputed for election duty.

The Deputy Commissioner also stated that the administration has maintained a strict vigil to ensure there  is no campaign or malicious campaign in social  media.

13,176 polling booth staff

The Deputy Commissioner informed that there are a total of 13,176 staff on duty in the polling booths in eight constituencies and that 648 vehicles  have been  arranged to   provide conveyance facilities to the polling officials to the booths and from there to the de-mustering centre after  the elections.

The KSRTC would be offering special bus services to 33 areas which do not have bus facility. In Sullia, Belthangady and Puttur  160 buses would be utilised to facilitate travel of polling staff and transportation of EVMs.

Women voters outnumber  men : There are a total of 17,11,848 voters in eight constituencies of the district including  8,70,675 women voters and 8,41,073 male voters.

Surveys on the day of election from 7 am to 6.30 pm are banned. The advertisements to be issued by the parties and candidates on May 11 and 12 have to be published only after scrutiny from the election committee, the Deputy  Commissioner said.

All arrangements  in place : SP Dr Ravikanthe Gowda and Police Commissioner Vipul Kumar said the Department has initiated all necessary measures to ensure  free and fair elections. Anyone found disturbing  the voting process would face strict action, they warned.
