12-year-old Andria wins under-17 girls’ chess championship 2010Mangalore, October 15: Andria L. D’Souza, aged 12, has won the state under-17 girls’ chess championship 2010, which was organized by the SKDCA under the auspices of UKCA from Oct 12 – 14 at Bharathiya Vidhya Bhavan.


FIDE rated 1696 player Andria D’Souza defeated FIDE rated 1958 player Shristi J. Shetty, who is also the commonwealth chess silver medalist, in the fourth round and FIDE rated 1747 player Nisha Patkar in the fifth round.


Andria D’Souza, the daughter of Victor D’Souza and Avith D’Souza, is currently in the VII Std. at Agnes English Primary School. Her sister Vanessa D’Souza is currently an under 15 chess champion and an Asian qualifier.


Andria will now represent the state in t
he national under – 17 girls’ chess championship, which will be held in November at Jammu and Kashmir.
