Mangaluru, Mar 27, 2018: Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil has informed that the district administration has already started gearing up for the upcoming Assembly elections for which dates have been announced.
Speaking to reporters here on March 27, Tuesday, he said there were a total of 16,67,194 registered voters in the district of whom 8,46,030 are women and 8,21,123 male voters. There has been a rise by 11 per cent as far as number of voters is concerned compared to 15,01,024 voters last time.
This year voting will be held in 1858 polling booths compared to 1,766 booths during the previous election. This time 36 old polling booths have been replaced, he said.
The Deputy Commissioner also stated that the first phase of pre-election arrangements have been completed in the district. The 1858 polling booths will have 2787 ballot units, 27 control units and 2450 VVPATs. The EVMs which have arrived in the district have been subject to test, he said adding all measures would be taken to ensure hassle free polls.
Poll code of conduct comes into force : With the announcement of election dates, the poll code of conduct has come into force. Within 24 hours all unauthorised advertisements in government property would be vacated, while all other illegal advertisements and hoardings in public places will be vacated in the next two to three days.
