100 Pairs of buffalo Bulls to Race in Rama-Lakshmana Jodukare Kambala

Mangaluru, Jan 13, 2019: Over 100 pairs of water buffalo bulls are set to take part in the 100 metre Kambala slush field track during the second edition of Rama - Lakshmana Jodukare Kambala, which was inaugurated today at Goldfinch city, Bangrakuloor, Mangalore.

The Kambala race will be held in six categories: Negilu (Junior) section, Hagga (junior) section, Negilu (senior) section, Hagga (senior) section, Kane Halage and Adda Halage. The races will be held on Sunday 13th January and Monday, 14th January.

Lakshmana Jodukare Kambala which is organized under the leadership of Capt Brijesh Chowta was inaugurated by K Chittaranjan president of Sri Brahma Baidharkala Garadi in the presence of former MLC Capt Ganesh Karnik.

In his address, K Chittaranjan commended the efforts of Capt Brijesh Chowta keeping the Kambala tradition alive. Capt Ganesh Karnik observed that Kambala is a traditional village sport which has gained widespread popularity, locally and globally.

The winners of Kane Halage, Hagga and Negilu (senior) will be given two gold sovereigns and runner-up will be awarded with one sovereign of gold, while winners of Adda Halage, Hagga, Negilu (junior) section will get one sovereign of gold and the runner-up will get half sovereign of gold.
