10 rescued from sinking boat in Arabian Sea

Mangalore, Mar 12: A boat transporting crusher jelly to Agatti Island in Lakshadweep sank in the Arabian Sea on March 11, Friday. Local fishermen who were in another boat rescued the boat’s crew of 10. The mishap took place at a distance of 16 nautical miles from Bunder, Mangalore.

The crew is from Jam Salaya in Gujarat. The boat, “Ghose Samdani,” belonged to Hameed Yakuk. The vessel sank into the sea after water began seeping into it. 

Yakub Ibrahim, the captain of the boat, said that the boat set out to sea at about 6 a.m. on March 1, Friday, with a load of crusher jelly worth Rs 3 lakh. He said that they noticed water leaking into the boat and could not pump it out. The crew realized the danger they were in, send a message via wireless, and shifted into the lifeboat. A fishing boat rushed to the rescue, he related. 

The rescued crew comprises Captain Yakub Ibrahim, Khasim Siddiq, Adam Abdulla, Adam Allararakha, Razak Yakub, Iss Sumhar, Ali Akbar Yakub, Talab Yakub, Hassan Talab, and Noor Mohammed Ibrahim.
