Mangaluru, Dec 20, 2014 : Deputy Commissioner A.B. Ibrahim has informed that the annual Karavali Utsav- a ten-day event will be held from December 23 onwards under the aegis of the District Administration. As usual, the Utsav will have an exhibition, cultural programmes by famed artistes, kabbadi tourney, beach fest etc.
Addressing a meeting held here on December 19, Friday, the Deputy Commissioner said the Utsav which will be resplendent of the culture and ethos of the district will be held simultaneously at Karavali Utsav grounds, Panambur Beach, Nehru Maidan, Kadri Park and Canara Girls’ High School, Dongerkery.
The DC informed that the festival to be organised at a cost of Rs 40 lakh will commence with a colourful procession reflecting the rich folk and cultural heritage of the coastal district. Renowned film maker and theatre personality Sadananda Suvarna will inaugurate the procession at Nehru Maidan at 3 pm. The procession which will proceed till the Karavaali Utsav ground and will be participated by DK District in-charge Minister Ramanatha Rai among others.
As part of the Utsav, a Beach Festival will be organised at Panambur Beach from December 24 to January 1 and the festival will feature kite show by Team Mangalore, beach volleyball, boat riding, skating etc.
A state level flood lit Kabaddi tourney for men and women will be held at Nehru Maidan on December 31 and January 1. Cash prize of Rs 1 lakh, Rs 60,000 and Rs 30,000 will be awarded to the first three winners respectively. Golden girl of Kabaddi Mamatha Poojari and renowned athlete Poovamma will be present at Nehru Maidan to watch the event.
The DC also informed that there will be a Karavali Utsav quiz for high school students at the Canara Girls High School.
