10,000 enthusiasts expected to participate in ‘Sahyadri 10K run Mangaluru’

Mangaluru, Jan 30 2020: For the first time in Mangaluru, thousands of people are registering their names for the marathon titled-- ‘Sahyadri 10 K run Mangaluru’. The run will begin at Mangala Stadium on February 2. Participants will get a ‘Bib’ number with chip and bar code.

“Each GPS enabled Bib (records timings of participant) is priced Rs 150,” Dakshina Kannada Athletic Association (DKAA) President and Bhandary Foundation Chairman Manjunath Bhandary informed mediapersons at Ocean Pearl on Wednesday.

He told reporters that those registering for 5K Maza run’ will be exempted from wearing the Bib.

Sahyadri 10K run Mangaluru with the tagline, ‘Swaccha – Parisara – Hasiru – Usiru’, is expected to attract 10,000 participants.

Over 6,500 participants have registered online for the 10K, he informed and added that a majority among them had signed up for ‘Maza with healthy run’. Many members of organisations were participating in order to spread awareness about fitness.

This mega event has received support from the Department of Youth Empowerment and Sports, Mangalore University, Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU) and Rajiv Gandhi University of Health Science (RGUHS). Music Director Gurukiran was the event’s ‘Brand Ambassador’. The runs will be conducted from 6.15 am onwards, Bhandary said.

Cultural programmes, Yoga demonstrations by SDM College of Naturopathy and Yogic Sciences will be conducted to entertain the crowd until the end of Marathon at Mangala stadium.

“We want everyone to participate and create a festive atmosphere in the entire city,” he stressed. Jerseys for participants was released on the occasion. Olympian Anand Menezes, DKAA treasurer Krishna Shenoy, Sunil Shetty of DKAA, Sadananda of KSAA and former international sprinter Anil Shetty were also present at the press meet.
