’Voter enrollment for graduate, teacher constituencies poor’

Mangaluru Nov 08, 2017 : Additional DC Kumar said that there is poor response for the enrollment of voters for the Graduate and Teachers South West constituencies in Dakshina Kannada district. He directed officials to intensify their awareness campaigns to urge eligible voters to get their names registered.

 

Addressing a meeting, he said the draft electoral rolls for the Graduate and Teachers South West constituencies will be prepared by November 20. The draft publication of electoral rolls will be published on November 21.

Any claims, objections, enrollment to the further draft electoral rolls should be submitted between Nobember 21 to December 21. The officials should dispose the claims and objections by January 15. The final electoral rolls will be published on January 19.

He said that the current electoral rolls of Graduate and Teachers South West constituencies that existed in 2012 is invalid.

Hence, the teachers and graduates should enroll afresh. Till November 6, a total of 3,776 gradutes and 1,740 teachers have enrolled for the electoral rolls. In 2012, there were 11,000 graduates and 4,900 teachers enrolled for the voters list. "We have to ensure that the eligible voters are not left out," he said.

For the Graduates constituency, the voters should have completed their degrees three years before November 1, 2017 and for the Teachers constituency, the voters should have worked as teachers for three years.

He said that the field officials should initiate steps to guide the new voters to fill the Form-18 and 19.

Further, he said that the Aadhaar or EPIC is not mandatory. The graduates should submit a residence proof and his/her degree certificate along with the application form.

While the teachers from unaided schools have to submit a letter from the school/college head counter signed by the Block Education Officer (BEO).He called upon the officials not to accept the applications in bulk. However, if educational institutions submit the applications of their teachers in bulk with a covering letter, it can be accepted.

 

General voters

The additional DC said that the draft voters’ list has already been published. People can check their name, address and polling station. Any objections and inclusion of new voters or changes in details of voters can be done till November 30. The final electoral list will be published in January.
