’The Hindu in School’ launched at Canara CBSE School

Mangaluru, June 07, 2016: This academic year’s The Hindu In School, The Hindu ’s school edition, was launched at the Canara CBSE School, Dongarakery, here on Monday. This is the 12th year of the edition.


Canara CLaunching the edition, Joy J. Rai, school principal, said that newspapers help students in keeping themselves abreast of the latest developments. With the school edition, The Hindu has been providing information regarding current affairs, science and sports in the way students want. The Hindu in School also helps students in improving their language skills. Ms. Rai said that the subscription charge, Rs. 450 for 150 days, for the student’s edition was meagre when compared to the knowledge that will be gained by reading the newspaper.

Ms. Rai said that emphasis was being given to inculcate the habit of reading newspapers and books among the school’s students. She said that students will be allowed to scan through the student’s edition of The Hindu in the first 10 minutes of the first period of the day. With new features and columns each day in the student’s edition, students should read the newspaper to gain knowledge.

Hrithik Rajesh, a 10th standard student from the school, said that he has cultivated the habit of reading newspapers everyday. Hrithik Rajesh said that he was regularly participating in the school activity under which students are asked to answer a question related to a current issue, at the end of the day. Students are to drop their answers the next day in a drop box near the principal’s chamber. “I have been participating in this activity for the last two years,” he said. Hrithik Rajesh’s classmate Anushka said that she liked The Hindu In School because the content was easy to read and understand. Ms. Rai said that they have planned to select students participating on a regular basis in the activity and present them with publications brought out by The Hindu .
