’Safety Lions’ an unique efforts for safety: J R Lobo

Mangaluru, April 7, 2015: Trophies and laurels always go to the fastest and biggest in competitions normally. A unique ’winner’ who rode (two-wheeler) in the slowest possible time on the track was awarded. Also, four-wheeler drivers had to go in reverse in their vehicles on the track.


jr lobo ’The great lions reverse show’ and ’two wheeler slow race,’ was held by Lions Club in association with Coastal Times and Prasar Conqni TV channels, to create awareness on safe driving, at Padua High School Sports Grounds in Mangaluru, on April 5, Sunday,

At least 25 contestants participated. Speaking at start of the events,  Mangaluru South MLA J R Lobo lauded the efforts in organising the unique rally and said though Mangaluru City is the eighth cleanest city in the country, according to a survey done by Ministry of Urban development, efforts need to be carried out to take it to the first position.  He pointed out  Mangaluru is one of the cities where highest number of vehicles are being registered. Pollution is getting to be very high. People should actively involve in cleanliness campaigns.

ACP (Traffic) Uday Nayak said it is estimated that in 2020, 18 lakh road accident deaths in the country are projected. More than half of these are caused by negligence to traffic rules, he said. Care and concern of other is primary. Speed will only lead to traffic problems for all, be safe till you are back home.

Traffic department carries out raids every week to control drunken drives and hefty fines are imposed on the defaulters, people should follow law whatever their status.

Lions Club district Governor Manjunatha Murthy, Lions Club first Vice district governor Kavitha Shastry, Sri Devi Education Trust Chairman A Sadananda Shetty flagged off the competitions. Lions Club district coordinator for accident awareness Agnel Rodrigues was present.
