’Rickshaw challenge’ attracts children at Mallikatte camp

Mangaluru, Apr 08, 2016: The Malabar Rampage-Rickshaw Challenge, an event conducted twice a year, enthralled residents of the city on Apr 7, Thursday as it was flagged off from the premises of the Government School at Mallikatte in Kadri here.

Attracted and thrilled were schoolchildren as near 40 participants from across the world  met with them. These participants, riding 18 autorickshaws, began their ‘rampage’ from Thiruvananthapuram in Kerala on April 3. They travelled through Alapuzha and Kozhikode before reaching Mangaluru. From Mangaluru, they go to Murdeshwara before heading for the final destination in Panaji, Goa.

The participants, are from a several countries of the globe, the United Kingdom, Australia, the United States, New Zealand, France and India, they rely on the local people along the route to guide them along towards victory.

The participants will also be making a difference in the lives of the underprivileged by raising funds for various projects of Round Table India, under their programme ‘Freedom Through Education’. Madras Midtown Round Table 42 is the charity partner for the Malabar Rampage, with close ties with RT 128 Panaji and RT 115 Mangalore.

Mangalore Round Table 115 has partnered with the Mallikatte Government School for over five years and has spent close to Rs. 6 lakh to improve infrastructure there, said Deepak Ramani, a member.
