’Pura Pravesha’ of next Paryaya seer a mega event in Udupi

Mangaluru, Jan 04, 2018: Palimaru mutt seer Sri Vidyadheesha Theertha Swami, who would be ascending the ‘Paryaya Peetha’ on January 18, 2018, was given a spectacular welcome upon his arrival to the temple town after a pilgrimage to various religious and spiritual destinations across the country.

The seer is ascending the Paryaya Peetha for the second term. He was welcomed in his ‘Pura Pravesha’ programme.

He will ascend the ‘Paryaya Peetha’ and conduct Sri Krishna Puha at the Sri Krishna Temple and run the temple administration for next two years under biennial Paryaya System, prevalent among the seers of ‘Ashta (eight) Mutts’ and introduced by saint Vadiraja Swami of Sode Vadiraja Mutt. Accordingly, the incoming pontiff should go on a pilgrimage visiting important temples in the country and seek the blessings of the presiding deities of those temples and invite the devotees to visit Udupi during his term of Paryaya as he seer cannot move out of temple premises for two years after ascending the Paryaya Peetha. He has to restrict his activities around the temple.

A huge number of devotees accorded a ceremonial welcome to the seer at traditional entrance of the temple town ‘Jodukatte’ at the Pura Pravesha procession. The seer was led in a colorful procession accompanied by Vedic chants. The presiding deity of the mutt ‘Rama Deva’ was carried in a golden palanquin before the carriage that carried the seer.

The seer, upon entering the downtown Car Street, had the Darshan of Lord Krishna through ‘Kanakana Kkindi’ and he also visited the old Sri Anantheshwara and Sri Chandramouleshwar temples. He prayed for the success of his two-year term Paryaya.

The pontiff later visited the Sri Krishna temple where he offered special Ppujas to the presiding deity Lord Sri Krishna and Lord Mukhyaprana (Anjaneya).

He was welcomed by the outgoing Paryaya Pejawar Mutt seer Sri Vishwesha Theertha Swami at the entrance of the temple. Later, he offered ‘Navagraha Dana’ and entered the Palimaru Mutt.

The grand procession passed through Taluk Office Road, Court Road, Diana Circle, K M Marg, Sanskrit College and culminated at Car Street.

It was indeed a cultural extravaganza with various cultural and religious displays that were portrayed in tableaux. ‘Navilu Kunita’, ‘Marakalu Huli’, ‘Dollu Kunita’, ‘Maragalu Kunita’, ’Somakasura’, ‘Thatteeraya’, Yakshagana and Kathakalli artefacts, ‘Mukhawadas’, artefacts of animals and birds, ‘Ardhanareeshwara’, skating,  ‘Nasik band’, tableaux carrying Lord Krishna, Lord Rama, Goddess Kali idols, ffolk dance teams and a Bhajan troupe, a troupe from ISKCON, ‘Kamsa Kahale’, ‘Kombu’, and ‘Keelu Kudure’ were the major attractions on the occasion. The portraits of Lord Krishna, Lord Rama, saints Madhwacharya and  Vadiraja were also the part of the procession.

A grand civic felicitation ceremony was held to the incoming Paryaya seer in the presence of District In-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj, Kaup MLA Vinay Kumar Sorake, former MLAs Raghupathy Bhat and Lalaji Mendon and BJP district President Mattar Ratnaker Hegde.
