’Organ donation’ awareness created through contest at KMC

Mangaluru, Sep 10, 2019: Acute shortage of organs for transplantation is a big drawback in India right now. As the demand far outstrips the availability of organs. Awareness on organ donation is therefore vital at this point to overcome this depressing scenario,  KMC Hospital medical superintendent Dr Avinash Shetty stated.

He addressed the participants and public gathering after distributing prizes to the winners of the painting competition organised to create awareness on organ donation by the KMC Hospital.

Dr Shetty said: “It was indeed heartening to see such enthusiastic participation by the students and encouragement by school authorities and parents.”

He added that active participation inspired the management to organise similar activities creating awareness amongst all sections of society.

The theme for the painting competition was “The Joy In Giving – Donate Your Organ.”

The KMC Hospital had reached out to 250-plus schools of Udupi and over 500 paintings were received. For each category first, second, third, and two consolation prizes were awarded at the hospital.

Deputy medical superintendent Dr Padmaraj Hegde, head, department of Ophthalmology, Dr Sulatha V Bhandary, deputy general manager, KMC hospital Sudhakar Prabhu, among a large number of participants and public were on hand on the occasion.
