’Jalotsav’ on at Malpe beach continues May 8

Udupi, May 08, 2016: A two-day Malpe Beach ’Jalotsav’ (water fair or celebration), opened on a colourful note on May 7, Saturday; it will continue on May 8, Suday, today.

The first-of-its-kind event to be held at Malpe beach, the Jalotsav attracted a large number of participants. The sunset, coupled with light music, ensured wonderful and amazing experiences to the people who celebrated  and had a fun filled evening in the midst of sand and water. The aim of the festival is to popularise both Malpe Beach and St Mary’s Island, located 6 Km from Malpe coast as the major tourist destination in the Udupi district.

The main  attraction for two days include stand up paddle, speedboat, banana ride, parasailing, surfing and kayaking. The folklore performances by five groups on the beach made it a wonderful evening. the folk dances represented various folk tradition of the locality.  A rock-climbing event would be held on the St Mary’s Island, which is an added attraction for the visitors.

A mass yoga programme is being organised on may 8,Sunday. There will be competitions for differently able persons. A throw-ball competition for women, a tug-of-war and sand sculpture competition as part of the two day Jalotsav. Cultural programmes are held on both the days.

Food courts, with delicacies, have been opened on the beach as part of the fest.

A youth along  with friends who was at the gala fun evening, is reported to have said, she would have all the fun with the amusement and water sports. This is very relaxing once in a way.

A young man who had just come to have see various water sports, got so carried away that he spent a lot of time enjoying the festival.  Young and old were seen enjoying the various aspects of the water celebrations which will continue today Sunday.
