’Akki Muhurta’ performed by Adamar Mutt in Udupi

Mangaluru, Jan 31, 2019: Akki Muhurta, the second of the major preliminaries before the next Paryaya festival, was performed in udupi, January 30,Wednesday, by Adamar Mutt. The Admar Mutt would be taking over as the next Paryaya Mutt after the Paryaya festival on January 18, 2020.

Elaborate rituals marked the Akki Muhurta. The rituals began with offering of prayers to Lord Chaturbhuja Kaliya Mardana Krishna, the presiding deity of Admar Mutt. Then, the representatives of the Admar Mutt went in a procession on Car Street and visited the Sri Chandramouleshwara Temple, Sri Ananteshwara Temple and Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple and offered their prayers at these temples and returned to Admar Mutt.

Later, a small decorated rice murra was placed in a golden palanquin and taken in procession on Car Street from the Admar Mutt. Devotees carried 18 rice murras on their heads. Some devotees carried the insignia of the mutt during the procession. The procession culminated at the Admar Mutt. The decorated rice murra was then shifted in front of the shrine of the presiding deity at Admar Mutt, where prayers and other rituals were conducted, while the other 18 murras were also kept in the mutt.

A specialty this time was that all the 18 murras had rice of local varieties in them such as Mullera, Rajakamala, Mattalaga, Padmarekha, Gouri, Ondkaddi, Honnekattu, Manjuguni Sannakki, Sindhu and Tanu.

Vishwapriya Tirtha Swami of Admar Mutt, Ishapriya Tirtha Swami, junior seer of Admar Mutt, Vidyadheesha Tirtha Swami of Paryaya Palimar Mutt, Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Paryaya Pejawar Mutt, Vishwaprasanna Tirtha Swami, junior of seer of Pejawar Mutt, Vidyasagara Tirtha of Krishnapur Mutt, Vidyavallabha Tirtha Swami of Kaniyur Mutt, and Vishwavallabha Tirtha of Sode Mutt were present.

Yaduveer Krishnadatta Chamaraja Wadiyar of the erstwhile royal family of Mysuru was the chief guest.

Later, speaking to media, Vishwapriya Tirtha Swami said that the purpose of Akki Muhurta was to collect and store rice to ensure its plentiful supply to serve meals to the large number of devotees who visited the Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple during the two-year Paryaya.
