Mangalore, Feb 21, 2014 : Students of the Canara Engineering College at Benjanapadavu have designed ‘ Vishwa Vihan’ a unique four-wheeler which will take part in the BAHA S.A.E 2014, the prestigious car racing event for students of engineering colleges. The event which has begun at Pitampura in Madhya Pradesh on February 20 will be held up to February 23.
This is for the first time that the Canara engineering College is taking part in the event which is being organised by Society of Automotive Engineers India since 2007. The College team had qualified for the second round after scoring the highest points in the first round of competition held at Bangalore.
The 20 member S.A.E. Acme team of the college led by Rakshith Kamath has designed Vishwa Vihan at a cost of Rs 2.6 lakhs in just 22 days. The car has a 25 inch tyre for good pick-up, a light weight chassis weighing 60 kg and has a maximum speed if 55 kmph. Vishwa Vihan is an all-terrain vehicle.
A total of 120 racing cars will compete in the final event. Seven engineering colleges from the state including NITK and Canara Engineering College from Dakshina Kannada are taking part in the event.
