’VEEZ Konkani’ e-magazine to release 101st issue at St.Agnes, November 24, Sunday

Mangaluru, Nov 23, 2019:   At a press meet held at the Press Club on November 22, Friday,  Dr. Austin D’Souza Prabhu editor  Veez Konkani, an e-magazine  stated that  the e-magazine  published in four popular scripts, has gained a renowned reputation world over, it is published from Chicago in the US.  The 101st special  issue will be released in the midst of the Konkani glitterati of the city tomorrow November 24, Sunday evening  at St. Agnes College, Bendur.  ‘Ek Konkani Sanz’ a special musical show will be the special occasion to power it.

The stage programme will be presided by Rev. Chetan Lobo, the former editor of Uzwad magazine, a Konkani scholar and historian. Konkani’s prominent local figures Bab Basti Vaman Shenoy and Bab Eric Ozario along with several  prominent personalities will grace the occasion as guests of honour.

 ‘Ek No’vo so’vnsar’ – A book by Fr. Chetan Lobo (46th book from Ashawadi Prakashan) and Ashawadi.com, a Konkani news portal developed by Bab Valley Quadras will be released during the programme. The prizes of the ‘Poinnari-Veez National level Konkani literary competition in the memory of Late Wilfy Rebimbus’ will be distributed during the occasion. This will be followed by ‘Sur Project ONE’, a multilingual music concert by Jaison Sequeira and his team ‘The Sur Ensemble’.

VEEZ Konkani weekly has been actively published by Dr. Austin Prabhu who will be personally present. This e-magazine  with news from Konkani people and organizations around the world and specially Mangaluru. Every weekly issue on Sunday, features a prominent personality with their biography. This unique feature has been appreciated by many readers. The electronic magazine also includes regular literary columns and promotes events organized by Konkani communities round the world. All of this is done online from Chicago.

The VEEZ weekly, Sunday e-magazine is circulated widely on social media and online web portals round the world and is very popular and eagerly awaited week after week by many Konkani  enthusiasts.  The event due on November 24, Sunday, holds much potential in the city.

Recap on Dr Austin Prabhu and Veez : 

Austin Prabhu was born in Nanthoor of Mangalore. In 1970s and 1980s he was dynamic youth leader, playwright, and actor in Mangaluru and set a record in Konkani by editing and publishing four papers at a time (Mithr, Jhelo, Kannik and Yuvak). He was founder secretary of Konkani Basha Mandal and his play ‘Ankwar Celly’ won best drama award from Goa Basha Mandal. After his migration to US, he became active in Lions and became first governor of Indian origin at Lions mother district. His service to the society is recognized by US by naming a street after his name in Illinois Province.

Continuing his love for Konkani language after his retirement, he started Veez Konkani a weekly magazine and by making best use of Konkan Verter, transliteration tool developed by World Konani Centre, Mangaluru, started publishing it in all four scripts that is Kannada, Devnagari, Roman and Malayalam. His unique idea of publishing magazine in all the four scripts has bridged the gap among the Konkani readers spread across four states and Veez Konkani has substantial readers across the globe. Moreover, Veez publishes free advertisements of Konkani events and it is free to read.
