‘UK-based’ woman on pretext of marriage dupes man

Mangaluru, Oct 17, 2017: A woman and two men, who introduced themselves to be from UK, have allegedly conned a bachelor from Kinnigoli, who had posted an advertisement on a matrimonial website seeking an alliance, to the tune of over Rs 11 lakh.

fraud 1As per the police complaint, on June 20, a woman introduced herself as Stella Morris to the victim via WhatsApp saying she hailed from UK and that she was interested in him. She asked the victim to come over to UK and promised him a job there.

Later, one of her accomplices Michael Antony asked the victim to deposit a sum of Rs 26,560 towards visa expenses.
In response, the man from Kinnigoli deposited the same via NEFT from his Canara Bank account. After a few days, another man named James Bevan asked him to transfer Rs 83,000 in connection with procuring an anti-terrorist certificate. They kept eking out money from him on several occasions.

The complaint states that the trio cheated the victim to the tune of Rs 11,39,535 in total.
