Mangaluru, May 21, 2015 : Students on a holiday camp at Swroopa Adhyayana Kendra were on a unique campaign to stop people from littering on May 20, Wednesday. Anybody seen littering on Car Street, had to face these students. The was then collected and disposed off in the right way.
At least 25 students on Car Street with a chariot made out of a vegetable push cart, the students said that they raise a voice to applaud the person who litters as he has provided us with an opportunity to pick up his litter and make a point. The students sported handmade cap that had a message ‘For the love of earth’.
Apart from wearing caps, these youngsters also sported messages on their clothes. They also had painted their faces. Some of the students marched wearing Yakshagana costumes.
Their observation was that people are insensitive often and litter even as the roads are being cleaned every day. Through this, people must get a message to stop littering. The best way is to make children practice it, as they will form a habit for years ahead. It took nearly 20 days to make these children keep their surroundings clean, he added. Many asked that spitting too be pointed out as a fault here.
DK DC Adoor .B. Ibrahim launched the campaign. DC Ibrahim asked to involve the MCC- Mangaluru City Corporation in their campaign to make it effective. He said that there was need for the city to set high standards in cleanliness and hygiene and make people aware of their role.
