’Smart City is a Developmental project and not a Political project’: Nalin Kumar

Mangaluru Sep 28,  2016: MP Nalin Kumar Kateel  said that, Smart city is development based project rather than a political project.Addressing press at Hotel Ocean Pearl today September 28, Wednesday.  He owed gratitude to State government and Union Government for picking Mangaluru to be a Smart city. At the same time Mangalurean were disappointed after getting omitted in the first phase list of smart city but Mangalore was picked during the second phase of list.

People’s support play pivotal role and also Mangaluru City Corporation, State government and Union Government should be merged to make Mangaluru into smart city, he added.


 Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s has made his vision crystal clear to convert 100 cities into smart city while certain guidelines will be prepared for the implementation of the project. The smart city are two typed one is brown field cities and other is green field cities. Under brown field cities we have area based proposal for 1628 acre which has been identified in Mangaluru, said Nalin Kumar Kateel.


Under the PAN city development platform will be created for dual access, PAN city project is set to complete in 5 to 10 years while area based project will complete in 15 to 20 years, he added.


 He further said that, committee with 17 directors will be formed for this project including senior secretary of IAS ranking from Union government and IAS ranking MD from State government, 7 representatives from MCC.


Nearly 1,000 Crores will be sanctioned for the smart city project in which Union and State government will contribute equal funds. Smart city project need to implement on quick basis and need to spend the entire amount within the time frame. During the process Asian Development Bank (ADB) and AMRUTH will sanction 1,000 Crores for Smart city project. 


We should not politicise in the smart city project and work for the success of Smart city project, he concluded.


Former MLA Yogesh Bhat, MLC Ganesh Karnik, Deputy Mayor Sumithra Kariya and Opposition leader Roopa D Bangera were present.
