‘Sahabalve Sagara Samavesha’ to deliberate on social harmony

Mangaluru, Jan 28, 2016 :  It was officially announced at a media meet  on Jan 27, 2016 by Karnataka Komu Sauharda Vedike, Central Committee ( Karnataka Communal  Harmony Forum), that the National Conference of Coexistence and Harmony; Sahabalve Sagara Samavesha, ( roughly translating to "Ocean of Coexistance");  Where Different Religions, Castes, Ideologies, Cultures, Languages Converge and all set to be held at Town Hall in Mangaluru on Jan 30, 2016.  Leading writer Baraguru Ramachandrappa will inaugurate the convention being organised by the Karnataka Komu Souharda Vedike to mark the anniversary of the day of assassination of Mahatma Gandhi.

General secretary of the vedike K.L. Ashok mentioned that roughly 1,500 delegates from different parts of the State are expected for the one day convention. Groups of  delegates would arrive in a procession at Mangaluru from Koodalasangama, Shishunala, Bababudangiri, Srirangapatna, Ankola, Chikkaballapura and Yadagir.

Vedike Gen Sec. Ashok said that while processions from seven places would start on 28th, the one from Bababudangiri would start on January 29. All the processions would be arriving at the Town Hall on the evening of January 29. Main gate way to the venue of the event would be named after research student Rohith Vemula from the University of Hyderabad, who committed suicide recently.

The convention would commence at 9 a.m. sharp with the presentation of sufi songs, vachanas, souharda geethe, local Paadana songs on the stage named after freedom fighter Kudmal Ranga Rao. After the inaugural function, there would be a session on “Secular society – religious coexistence” at 11.30 a.m. in which Panditaradya Shivacharya Swami from Sanehalli Mutt, Dakshina Kannada Qazi Twaka Ahmed Musliyar and Mangaluru Bishop Aloysius Paul D’Souza would participate.

There would be a session on the role of political parties in building a cordial society. Senior politician A.K. Subbaiah, Minister for Small Industries Satish Jarkiholi, Health Minister U.T. Khader and Media Advisor to Chief Minister Dinesh Amin Mattu would be among those participating in the discussion. Well known Psephologist Yogendra Yadav and Human Rights activist Teesta Sethalvad would participate in the valedictory function.

The key members of the local organising committee were present and interacted with media representatives, they are :   K.L. Ashok (Secretary Central), Suresh Bakrabile (President DK), Ummer U H (Secretary), Sajid Momin (Vice President) S Nandagopal ( Hon Member), Ismail (Hon Member), Gulabi Belimale (Secretary).

Programme schedule on Jan 30 at the different designated Platforms at Town Hall are Kudmal Rangarao Stage (Morning 9 am), “SHOWCASE OF ART FORMS” Presentation of different art forms of coastal Karnataka, folk art forms of karnataka, Sufi-Vachana, Songs of Struggle etc

Siri Stage (10:15 am – 11:30 am), “INAUGURAL SESSIONS”  Inaugural art form – DOLU KUNITHA (indigenous tribal drum beating & dance) Inauguration

 Valedictory session will be followed by a play (Evening 6:45 pm- 8:00 pm),   “KONDAVARARU” (Who are the killers?), a play which encounters us with Gandhi’s idea and philosophy

There will also be book release of different authors.  These sessions will be presided and participated by activists, people’s movement leaders, writers, artists, intellectuals, academicians, organization’ s leaders & representatives, religious leaders, political party representatives and many more
