Mangaluru, Aug 15,2017: A media release from Rosario Cathedral states: The historicity of the Portuguese confirms their arrival on the shores of old Kanara’s, Mangaluru in January 1568. On the river banks here they established their fort named  "St.Sebastian" and a church was incorporated in this fort. Here, an image of ’Mother of the Rosary’ was installed, it gained a high reputation as a ’miraculous statue’.  Thus it came to bear the name as ’Mother of the Rosary’  church.
