‘Priority for promoting coastal tourism’

Udupi, Nov 13, 2019: Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilizers D.V. Sadananda Gowda said on Tuesday that importance would be given to promoting coastal tourism in the State.

 

He was speaking after inaugurating the beach cleanliness drive under the Swachh Bharat Mission organised by the district administration and other organisations at the Padukere beach, here.

Mr. Gowda said coastal tourism in the State should be developed on the lines of that in Kerala and Goa. In both Kerala and Goa, coastal tourism had developed a lot. There was lot of potential for development of coastal tourism in the State as it had lot of natural beaches, including Malpe and Padukere. He would pursue the coastal tourism development projects from the State with the Tourism and other ministries at the Centre.

Mr. Gowda said nearly 65% of the population in the country was below the age of 35. It was essential to channelise the youth power. It was necessary to involve the youth in the cleanliness drive. “Students could start by keeping their houses, neighbourhood and schools clean. Cleanliness should become a part of our lives,” he said.

Mr. Gowda said Prime Minister Narendra Modi had given a call for stopping single-use plastic. Single-use plastic was hazardous and not degradable. Littering of single-use plastic should stop. Hard plastic could be recycled and reused, he said.

Shobha Karandlaje, MP, said the Padubidri beach had got Blue Flag certification. A sum of Rs.8 crore had been released for the development of Padubidri beach and another Rs.2 crore would be sanctioned for its development. Efforts would be made to get Blue Flag certification to Padukere beach also, she said. Raghupati Bhat and Lalaji Mendon, MLAs, Neeta Gururaj, president of Udupi Taluk Panchayat, and others were present.

’Centre will implement Uniform Civil Code’

Union Chemicals and Fertilizers Minister D.V. Sadananda Gowda said on Tuesday that the Union government would implement the Uniform Civil Code in due course.

Speaking to presspersons here, Mr. Gowda said the Bharatiya Janata Party-led government at the Centre would implement all the assuarances made in the party manifesto, in phases.
