‘Moral Policing’ renamed, to be termed as ‘Immoral Rowdyism : SP

Mangaluru, June 23, 2015: No more using the term ‘moral policing.’ Henceforth it will be termed as ‘immoral rowdyism’, said Dakshina Kannada District Superintendent of Police Dr Sharanappa.

 

Speaking to the media at a Meet the Press Programme at Press Club  on June 23, Tuesday  the SP said it is meaningless to use the term moral policing when the act is  moral in no way. The police will henceforth use the term immoral rowdyism, he said and urged the media to also follow suit.

He also urged victims of such incidents to lodge complaints without any hesitation so that culprits can be brought to book and justice could be done.

The SP stated that  the Department was making sincere efforts to  increase police-public ratio and added that out of the 90 vacant  posts of constables, 50 have been filled.

All out efforts are also being made to   ensure  police stations are people-friendly, he said adding that the Department was striving to secure ISO certification.

The IT cell of the Police Department is  working towards paperless documentation  and the Department was making the best use of technology under the Crime and Criminal Trackign Network and Systems.

The electronic beat wherein each station has ten readers to monitor movements has proved highly useful, he added.

The SP informed that the Department has ensured that SC/ST meetings are held regularly  while the meeting on the third Sunday of the month the status of the complaint filed will be revealed.

To a question, the SP said he never felt political pressure so far while on duty. “The law permits anyone to call even the SP, but so far there has been no pressure”, Sharanappa said. He also reiterated that he would walk out  if there was political pressure at any point of his career and assured that he would stand by his words.

On the Sowjanya case investigation, he said the case is being probed by the CBI. “The Police cannot seek to know the status of the probe, but can always assist the CBI with any details,” he added.
