The shooting for the film began under the pipal tree near Sri Mahalingeshwara temple here with B. Jayashree playing the lead role of Mookajji and Arvind Kuplikar playing the role of Subraya.

Birth anniversary

Incidentally, the shooting was launched on Wednesday, the 116th birth anniversary of Karanth. It is also 50 years since he wrote Mookajjiya Kanasugalu.

Mr. Sheshadri, who made the feature film Bettada Jeeva based on Karanth’s novel of the same name in 2011, said Mookajjiya Kanasugalu had several layers which made it quite a challenging film to make.

The film will be shot in locales such as Harady, Parkala, and Nancharu in Udupi district in about 25 days in a single schedule. The local Kannada dialect will be used in the film.

It will be released in January–February, 2019. Of the 60 artistes in the film, nearly 80% are local people. The cinematography is by G.S. Bhaskar, editing by B.S. Kempraj, and music direction by Pravin Godkhindi. The film is being produced by Navyachitra Creations.
