‘Mobile Therapy Unit’ arrives at Seva Bharathi

Mangaluru, Aug 20, 2019: Speaking at a programme organised to launch the first-of-its-kind ‘Mobile Neuro-Sensory Developmental Therapy Unit’ at Srinivas Kalyan Mantap on V T Road here, Mangalore City South MLA D Vedavyas Kamath said that the chief minister will be urged to implement a comprehensive project for the welfare of differently-abled in society.

The mobile unit was procured by Mangaluru-based social pressure group, Seva Bharathi, with the help of MRPL (Mangalore Refinery and Petrochemicals Limited) which had released Rs 46 lakh under its corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme.

Kamath said presently there were no schemes aiming at the welfare of differently-abled, who are aged above 25. “A comprehensive welfare scheme to bring such special people into the mainstream is an urgent need.”  He promised to lead a delegation and convince the chief minister on the need to formulate a policy in this regard.

“A sports complex is being planned in the city at a cost of Rs 25 crore. MRPL has given its in-principal approval to extend financial help to the project,” he said and added that the sports complex would be built on the lines of MIT sports complex in Manipal.

The sports complex will give equal importance to all sports, including local sports, MLA Kamath said and added that the complex would give a big boost to the ongoing sports activities.

MRPL Group General Manager (HR) B H V Prasad said MRPL had always considered the betterment of society. “The MRPL will continue to help Seva Bharathi in providing services to the differently-abled,” he assured.

Venkataramana Temple Committee Managing Trustee C Lakshman Shenoy, who presided over the programme, said service to special children was equal to serving God.

Seva Bharathi President Sumathi Shenoy, Secretary Nagaraj Bhat, Trustees U V Shenoy, Vinod Shenoy, Ashwathama, Mukund Kamath, K R Kamath, Gajanana Pai among others were also present.
