‘Medical negligence’ blamed for death of woman after surgery; protest staged

Mangalore, Nov 01, 2014:  Family members and relatives of a woman who died at a private hospital in the city following a  surgery,  gathered outside the hospital and staged a protest on October 31, Friday evening alleging that the woman had died of medical negligence. The police had to later intervene to cool down the situation after protestors including several from her village tried to barge into the chamber of the medical officer.

Saritha from Kadri whose husband’s house was in Vittal had availed treatment at a local doctor on October 23, Thursday evening for head ache.  As per the doctor’s advice she was brought to Mangala Hospital  in  Mangalore on October 24.

It is learnt, doctors had recommendd a CT scan when a minor problem was noticed. As per doctor’s advice she was operated upon in the hospital on October  25.

According to her family  members she  was taken to a scanning centre at Bendorewell the next day following which the doctors said she needed another surgery stating she had some problem in  her skull.  They alleged that the negligence of the doctors during the two surgeries had  left Saritha in a coma state eventually leading to her death on October 30, Thursday.

Saritha’s brother has alleged that the doctors had kept the family members in the dark about her condition.
