He was reportedly kidnapped during the early hours of August 11, when he was on way to the port to get  fish  as  he had opted for fish selling business at Chembugudde after returning from abroad a few months ago.

It was said that he was kidnapped by some people who came by a Scorpio vehicles. The kidnappers had later demanded a ransom of Rs 1.5 crore after making a call  from a foreign number to Arif’s family and had even threatened to finish him off if their demand was not met.

The family had then lodged a complaint with the police who gathered information that Farooq gang from Kerala and Latif of Uppinangady were behind the kidnapping. However, before the police could  nab them, they have released Arif.

The suspicion is that Arif was kidnapped to pressurise him to return the  Rs 40 lakhs which he had borrowed from someone while he was abroad.
