’Janmashtami’ at it’s peak in DK and Udupi

Udupi, Aug 26, 2016: Thousands of devotees visited the temple and took part in various religious rituals organised as part of the festivities. Sri Krishna Janmasthami was celebrated with pomp and grandeur for the second consecutive day at the famed Sri Krishna Mutt here on Aug 25, Thursday.
In Udupi : Paryaya Pejawar Mutt seer Vishwesha Theertha Swami and junior seer Vishwaprasanna Theertha Swami observed ’Upavasa’ and performed the ritual of "Arghya Pradana" at 11.48 pm.
Muddu Krishna competition was held for the second day and the kids danced to the music of traditional hymns. Tiger dance artistes wandering all over the temple town and also in other parts of the district were the cynosure of all eyes. The children were imitating different movements of Lord Krishna and the entire saga of Krishnavatar was re-enacted by various instances of Lord Krishna’s life at Rajangana. The kids joined the chorus of melody, besides the traditional rhythm. The Car Street was full of vendors selling flowers, Tulasi leaves and various other items. The devotees thronged the temple to offer the prayers to Lord Krishna.
"Sri Krishna Leelotsava" known as "Vittlapindi" or "Mosarukudike Habba" will be celebrated today Aug 26, Friday.
The wooden poles erected in 15 different places around Car Street are designed in the form of Gopura. The traditional cowherds and the youths dressed as cowherds with leaves and husk around their body would play the game of breaking the earthen pots hanged to the wooden poles.
The cultural and religious celebrations would culminate with the immersion of clay idol of Lord Krishna in Madhwa Sarovar, the temple pond. The seers of Astha Mutts would join the celebrations and take the holy dip at the temple pond. The Paryaya Pejawar seer would perform the pujas and the rituals on the occasion.
Meanwhile, the district administration, in association with the zilla panchayat, also organised the Sri Krishna Jayanthi programme. On the occasion, zilla panchayat president Dinkar Babu said Sri Krishna is known for his political acumen that stood as the embodiment of administrative excellence.
ZP CEO Priyanka Mary Francis said Sri Krishna was a social revolutionary and showed the pathway for serving the poor. Cultural programmes were organised on the occasion.
Little Krishnas’ day out in Mangaluru :
In the City, various forms of little Krishnas - Krishnas eating butter, lifting the mighty Govardhana mountain, dancing on the hoods of serpent Kalia and playing flute - all served a visual treat, if not for the enactment, but for the spontaneous pranks and antics of the toddlers. Playful acts of little Krishnas amused the visitors at Sri Krishna Vesha competition organised by Iskcon at Dr TMA Pai International Convention Centre in the city on Aug 25, Thursday, on the occasion of Sri Krishna Janmastami.
Some tiny tots preferred to stand still and pose for the cameras while some others forgot the dialogues, some beckoned their mothers seated below the stage and so on. Children dressed up as Radha, danced to the tunes of the songs suited for the occasion.
On another side of the hall, children of various age groups took part in the drawing and painting competitions. Bhagavad Gita recitation and quiz contests were also conducted on the occasion.
Special puja was offered to the idols of Krishna and Balarama. Children’s parents, relatives and Iskcon’s volunteers took part in the programme. There was enthusiastic participation from a large crowd of people.
