"Extend timely help to meritorious students" -Bishop Saldanha

Mangaluru, Mar 18, 2019: Speaking after giving away Phudar awards, instituted by Phudar Pratishthana, at Milagres Hall here, on March 17, Sunday,  Mangaluru Bishop Dr Peter Paul Saldanha said that organisations should take initiatives to encourage young talents in rural areas. There are many a student in rural areas who are brilliant and innovative. These exceptional talents need financial assistance and proper guidance, he said.

Lauding the efforts of Phudar Pratishthana, the Bishop said that following the example of the Pratishthana, organisations should extend timely help to meritorious students.

He said that applications of modern technology had become common today. Indian scientists have contributed immensely to the research on modern technology, he said and called upon the youth to utilise the technology for their better prospects.

Phudar award was conferred on Income Tax Department Inspector Amlyn Jyothsna D’Souza and IISc Bengaluru Associate Professor Patrick Raymond D’Silva.

Meritorious students from Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts were also felicitated by the Bishop on the occasion.  Fr Walter D’Mello, Phudar Pratishthana Working President Alwyn Quadras, Office-bearers Harry Rego, Rolfy D’Costa, Lancy D’Cunha, John D’Silva and Walter D’Souza were present.
