Mangalore, March 3, 2014: The Dalit community should be empowered with knowledge and education so that it can successfully fight injustice, said Ratnaker Bannadi, Principal of Government Pre-University College.
He was speaking after inaugurating a district level convention of Dalits held at the SDM Law College Auditorium in the city on March 2, Sunday under the aegis of the DK District Dalit Associations’ Union. This is for the first time that various Dalit organisations have come tougher on a single platform.
Continuing, Bannadi said Dalits still continue to suffer owing to exploitation and added a united Dalit community will go a long way in ending casteism and discrimination.
Jayan Malpe, Dalit leader said the problems facing the Dalit community are increasing and stressed the need for unity and collective efforts on their part to find solution to their problems.
The convention was earlier inaugurated by Keshav Puttur. Ashok Konchady, District Convenor of the Union presided over the meeting.
Several Dalit leaders including Nirmal Kumar, Girish Kumar, MP Umeshchandra, Mallikarjun Kodikal and others were present.
