‘DVG’s Kagga filled with essence of Vedas and Upanishad’

Mangaluru, Apr 25 2019: Well known poet  D V Gundappa (DVG) was indeed a great literary figure and a humanist who lived the life he preached. `Mankuthimmana Kagga’ written by him in simple Kannada has the essence of the Vedas and Upanishad, said DVG’s close aide Saraswathi Venkataraman.

 

She addressed the gathering after receiving ‘DVG Prashasthi’ at DVG-BGL Prashasti event organised by DVG Balaga Prathishtana at Karnataka Bank auditorium recenlty.  She lauded DVG as a visionary and an intellectual.

Constructive discussion : “He was very knowledgeable. He led a simple life despite being a well-known poet. He had the talent to answer any question in a simple manner. He had great respect for democracy and rejected political positions he was offered. Through the Gokhale Sarvajanika Samsthe, DVG was always engaged in meaningful discussions with the like-minded litterateurs,” she added.

Director of the Centre for Public Understanding of Science Dr T S Channesh became the first recipient of BGL Prashasthi, instituted in the name of DVG’s son and botanist B G L Swamy.

In his presidential address, Karnataka Bank Managing Director M S Mahabaleshwara said that DVG’s ‘Kagga’ was relevant even today.

“The essence of life is enshrined in the Kagga,” he noted. DVG Balaga Prathishtana Convener Kanakaraju and others were present.

Later, in his valedictory lecture on Mankuthimmana Kagga, Vidwan G S Natesh said that leadership qualities
come from sacrifice, not selfishness.

“A woman who cooks food at home wants to feed the family. She does not feel sad that food got over before her meal.

Likewise, one should not feel discouraged but always work with dedication. There is nothing called inferior work in this world,” he advised.  There was a knowledgeable and active gathering.
