Mangaluru, Aug 11, 2017: Pramod Madhwaraj, Minister of State for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports, on Thursday directed officers of all government departments to clear applications regarding sexuality minorities within a week.

Pramod MadhwarHe was chairing a meeting on the implementation of welfare measures for sexuality minorities at the Deputy Commissioner’s office, here.

Mr. Madhwaraj said that the State government had already started several schemes for the welfare of the sexuality minorities.

The proper implementation of these schemes would go a long way in seeing that there was no discrimination against them and help removing the feeling of aloofness in the society which some of them might have. It will also make them gain self confidence, he said. Sanjeev Vandse, social worker, said that very few members belonging to sexuality minorities had got the benefit of Maitri, self employment and housing schemes in the district.

Mr. Madhwaraj directed the officers to provide the benefits of these schemes to the eligible beneficiaries.

He directed tahsildars to include the names of the beneficiaries whose names had been left out for housing schemes.

He directed the Project Director of Urban Development Cell, Arun Prabha, to give priority to sexuality minorities in distribution of plots in vendor zones in urban local bodies.

He told Deputy Commissioner, Priyanka Mary Francis to provide opportunities to the sexuality minorities when appointing workers for various departments on contract basis.

Mr. Madhwaraj said that the target given to provide employment to sexuality minorities in the district was less, while the number of applicants was more.

He would discuss with the ministries concerned if it was possible to divert the unfilled targets of other districts here.
