The problem of water shortage in Mangalore, Mukka, Bantwal, and Surathkal was discussed during the meeting. The Zilla Panchayat has successfully resolved 41 of the 320 complaints received by it. Owing to technical problems, 200 of these complaints are still pending and 53 are being looked into. The DC instructed the CEO to resolve the pending complaints at the earliest possible.

The DC also listened to the grievances of the people living in the rural areas. He said that the district administration has released an emergency fund of Rs 1 crore to take immediate steps toward solving the problem of water shortage, adding that an addition fund of Rs 70 lakh will be released soon.

The DC instructed the members of the Taluk and the Zilla Panchayaths to take the following steps immediately:

Establish grievance centres at all the subdivisions of the Taluk Panchayat

Set up a separate division for the public to submit complaints

Record all complaints given personally, via phone calls, via representatives, and through applications

Forward the received complaints to the junior engineers of the respective regions
Conduct frequent meetings with the task force and the ZP CEO to take the required steps to provide water

Appoint engineers to inspect the ground with the help of the Geological Department and report to the respective Panchayaths to take immediate steps

Appoint task force to collect statistics from regions where acute water shortage has been observed and to supply water to such areas in tankers

The DC also lauded private concerns such as NITTE, Infosys, and Yenepoya for lending their support toward solving the problem of water shortage in Deralakatte.

District-in-charge Minister Krishna J Palemar, President of the Dakshina Kannada Zilla Panchayath Santhosh Kumar Bhandary, Standing Committee Presidents of Health, Education, Agriculture, and Industry also participated in the meeting.
