Kundapur: July 7, 2015: A 24 year old youth who posed as a news reporter to extort money from his own uncle has been arrested by the police on Tuesday.
The accused has been identified as Pradeep Kharvi (24) from Uppunda near Byndoor.
It is learnt that Pradeep phoned his uncle Annappa Kharvi pretending as a Television news reporter and allegedly demanded Rs 1.5 Lac from him.
Annappa’s relation with Pradeep’s family was not good.
Annappa who works as a fisherman for a boat received a phone call from a person who claimed that he was a TV reporter. He said that he had a private video of Annappa and he would broadcast it if he failed to pay the Rs. 1.5 Lac.
Annappa informed about the call to the police. On July 6 Monday, Annappa received another call and was told to handover the money to a person who would bring the Video CD.
Soon Annappa informed about the call to the police. The police started to investigate and arrested the youth who came to collect the money.
When the police further investigated, the accused revealed that the idea of extortion was planned by the Pradeep Kharvi.
The police arrested Pradeep Kharvi in Manipal and seized his car.
