Udupi, Nov 9, 2011 : The Udupi District Youth Association organized a protest in front of the DC’s office yesterday alleging that they were not given posts in the organizing committee of the state-level Yuvajanothsava, which is scheduled to be held on Nov 12 on a budget of several lakhs of rupees by the District Youth Service and the Sports Department.

In his protest address, President Manohar Kunder said that the youth association should be given a chance as its members have won several prizes and trophies in the event. Accusing Sithanadi Vittala Shetty, the officer of the District Youth Service and Sports, of misusing his powers and purposely refraining from involving youth organizations in the event, he said that the officer has included only teachers and educational societies in the event. He complained of the officer uses their services whenever required, but keeps them away from the organization of the Yuvajanothsava, which involves an expenditure of lakhs of rupees.

He further complained that even the DC has not taken this matter seriously and that even the enquiry committee, which arrived from Bangalore, has been given a false report by Sithanadi Vittala Shetty and the DC.

The protesting youth have demanded the immediate suspension of Seethanadi Vittala Shetty and H. K. Ganapayya, the taluk officer of Karkala, who is assisting him and the postponement of the Yuvajanothsava to a future date. They have also urged the cancellation of the existing committee and the formation of a new committee and that the responsibility of organizing events for the youth should be handed over to youth organizations.

Association office bearers Shankaradasa Chandkala, Yathish Kalya, Divakara Hejamadi, and Rajesh Mallya also participated in the protest.
