Mangaluru, Sep 24, 2015: The decision of the Union Government to withdraw the stamps bearing the images of former prime ministers Indira Gandhi and Rajiv Gandhi has drawn flak from the Congress. On September 23, Wednesday, the District Youth Congress staged a protest against the decision and symbolically locked up the Head Post Office at Pandeshwar.
Mithun Rai, District Youth Congress President who addressed the protestors said the decision of the Union government to withdraw the stamps of two great personalities who had contributed significantly to the nation, was unacceptable. Pointing out that the Congress had not withdrawn the postal stamp bearing the image of another former PM Vajpayee while it was in power, he warned that the Youth congress would protest at the state level if the government did not revoke its decision.
Praveen Chandra Alva, Corporator, Meryll Rego and several other Youth Congress leaders and workers participated in the protest.
