Udupi, Aug 6,2015 :The decomposed remains of a whale was found at Malpe Beach on August 6, Thursday. This is the third such incident wherein a dead whale was spotted on the sea shores in undivided DK in the recent past.
Locals who first spotted the dead whale with its tail separated from the body suspect that the whale might have died due to the serious injuries in suffered after it was hit by a ship. Hundreds of people swarmed the beach to have a look at the dead whale. The CMC workers later buried the carcass of the whale near the seashore at Malpe.
It may be recalled here that a dead whale was spotted at Mogaveerapatna in Ullal and another at Tannirbavi a few days ago.
According to marine experts the whales while moving in groups get caught in waves and get stranded on the seashore where they die mainly owing to dehydration or a block in the blowhole. They rule out the possibility of the whales getting hit by ships as there is no fishing during this season.
