Mangaluru, April 1, 2018: The Dakshina Kannada SVEEP committee has brought out a CD with Yakshagana songs, to create awareness on exercising franchise.

The collection is titled “Prajaprabhutva Habba.” Yakshagana Bhagavatha has composed the music, while the lyrics are written by Zilla Panchayat CEO Dr M R Ravi. IGP (Western range) Arun Chakravarthy released the CD.

Control rooms:  The district administration has set up a control room to receive complaints from the public in the backdrop of the Assembly election.

The control room will function round-the-clock from the deputy commissioner’s office. Any complaint regarding the violation of model code of conduct and any issue related to the election can be collected at the control room.

Blood donation camp: To create awareness among the voters, the Dakshina Kannada Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) committee will organise a blood donation camp at Nethravathi hall of the Zilla Panchayat at 9 am on April 4.

The theme of the camp “Jeeva Ulisalu Raktadana — Desha Ulisalu Mathadana (“Blood for saving life — Exercise franchise for saving the country), said SVEEP Committee president Dr M R Ravi.

‘Accepting cash is offense’:  As the election code of conduct is in force, any individual who accepts cash or any other goods, to incite an individual to cast vote is liable for punishment under IPC 1960 Section 171 (B) with one year of imprisonment or fine or both.

A release from DK DC  Sasikanth Senthil, who is also the district returning officer, said that a person who gives gratification to anybody with the object of inducing him or any other person to exercise electoral right is also a punishable.

A flying squad has been formed in each assembly constituency to look into such cases, DC Senthil has warned.
