Mangalore Today News Network

Mangalore, Nov 9, 2011: Madhusudhan Kushe College, the Mangalore Chapter of Youth against Corruption (YAC), and ABVP jointly organized an anti-corruption protest in front of the DC’s office today.

ABVP Organizing Secretary Ramesh said in his protest address that students have formed YAC in the district to fight against corruption. Speaking about the Padasaale facility at the DC’s office, he said that the RTC section of Padasaale has implemented a coupon system and that 300 – 350 people queue up for these coupons everyday. However, rich people who pay an additional fee or those who use the influence of mediators get coupons earlier while the poor people have to wait all day in the queue. He said that the protestors urge the department to put an end to this corrupt activity at the earliest.

Condemning the ever rising reports of corrupt activities at the office of the sub registrar, he said that register applications usually cost Rs. 130 to Rs. 150, but people pay an extra amount to get it from the sub registrar’s office. Besides, officials demand a bribe of Rs. 500 to register land worth Rs. 1 lakh, he added.

He also complained that people cannot get their work done unless they bribe concerned officials within the district administration.

The protestors warned the state government to take stern action against corrupt officials, failing which they threatened that they will stage an intense protest against corruption to create awareness among the public.

Vinay Horatti, the district leader of ABVP, students of SDM College, students of Besant College, and ABVP State Executive Secretary Vishalakshi, also participated in the protest.
