Mangaluru, Oct 06, 2020: A wrong decision taken by the administration with regard to the Central market on the pretext of Covid-19 has not only resulted in loss of revenue to the City Corporation but has also affected over 450 merchants as well as around 5000 people who worked at the Central Market, alleged MCC Opposition leader Abdul Ravoof.
Speaking to reporters on October 6, Tuesday, he said the about Rs one crore revenue which the MCC was reaping from the Central Market has now stopped.
Pointing out that temporary arrangements were made for retail merchants on the footpath in front of Town Hall by putting up sheets at a cost of Rs 4.84 lakhs, he said this was unlawful and that it was not suitable for vegetable and fruit business.
He said during Congress rule the MCC had made alternate arrangements for vendors when new markets were built at Alake, Kadri, Kavoor, Kankanady and Urwa and alleged that the present BJP rule has neglected the interests of the merchants as far as Central Market issue is concerned.
