Mangaluru Mar 25, 2016: Former Chairman of Syndicate Bank NK Thingalaya inaugurated a workshop on “Social Business in India: Opportunities and Challenges” held at Nitte Education International, Pumpwell Circle on March 25, Friday.
Speaking on the occasion he said social entrepreneurship was already becoming an important branch of social science research and that many business schools across the world have started offering courses on social entrepreneurship.
’’India is considered a major start up economy, and there is ample scope for a good number of these start ups to take the form of social enterprises. It is thus imperative that youth in particular need to be given adequate exposure on this emerging domain," said Thingalayya
President of Kanara Chamber of Commerce and Industry Ram Mohan Pai said that, Globalisation and the consequent liberalization of economy has brought market forces to the centre stage all over the world and created economies dominated by private corporate sectors. Chamber of commerce is involved in social works and it also needs to concentrate in inclusion of Social Business too, he added..
Registrar Nitte University MS Moodithaya said that many plans that are put in paper are not practical. Citing an example, he said though LPG is provided even to households in rural areas, whether some such areas are approachable by road, also needs to be given much attention.
Chairman of SBAN India Dr. Yashwantha Dongre also spoke. Professor Prabhakar and others were present.
