Mangaluru, Dec 19, 2014: Prof. K Byrappa, Vice Chancellor of Mangalore University inaugurated a two-day National Workshop on ‘DNA Barcoding-Concept and Applications” at the Ravindra Kala Bhavan of University College in the city on December 18, Thursday.
The Workshop is being held under the Joint aegis of the Departments of Microbiology, Zoology and Botany of the College , Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Marathwada University, Aurangabad and Paul Hebert Centre for DNA Barcoding and Biodiversity Studies, Aurangabad.
The Vice Chancellor released a souvenir on the occasion. In his address, the Vice Chancellor said there were plans to open a Department of Biotechnology in the University College in the near future.
Dr Indrani Karunasagar, Director, R&D, Nitte University who was the chief guest of the programme hoped the workshop would go a long way in enhancing knowledge on the subject.
Sunanda U, Principal of University College. Dr Bharathi Prakash, Organising Secretary, Dr Nagaratna KA of Department of Zoology, Dr Siddaraju from Department of Botany and others were present.
Dr GD Khedkar, Director of the Paul Hebert Centre is the Chief Resource Person of the workshop which is participated by 115 persons from across the nation.
